Walter Murdoch Writing Prize

St Basil's (Anglican Parish of Murdoch-Winthrop) is pleased to announce the inaugural Sir Walter Murdoch Writing Prize

In honour of Sir Walter's dedication to fostering lively and thoughtful public dialogue, the Walter Murdoch Writing Prize invites young people to engage with contemporary issues and make their voices heard in the public space, through writing. Prizes are offered across four age categories, covering ages 7-25 yo, and participants are encouraged to let culture and religion inform their work, as the judges affirm that our differences enrich our conversation.

Presentation of prizes and certificates of commendation will take place at St Basil's on Saturday July 30th, 2016, 5-6pm. The ceremonial programme includes a selection of songs sung by an accomplished local choir, Scottish piping courtesy of Bishop David Murray, and presentation of prizes and certificates by the Vice Chancellor of Murdoch University. The evening will conclude with sparkling refreshments and time to enjoy the winning entries, which will be on display. All winning and commended entries will also be featured on the parish website.

I hope you will consider promoting this initiative, and of course inviting young people in your own circles to submit entries, which must be received by 16 June 2016.
